Google Transitions Search Ads to AI Max, Expanding AI-Driven Automation

Google is transitioning its Search Ads tools, including Dynamic Search Ads, into its AI-powered platform AI Max, which has now launched globally after a year in beta. Advertisers can begin opting in now, with automatic migration planned for September 2026. Other features like automatically created assets and campaign-level broad match will also be folded into the new system.

AI Max is designed to better handle how search behavior is evolving by replacing manual adjustments with AI-driven targeting to deliver personalized messages to consumers. This shift comes as more people turn to tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, leading to longer queries and making traditional keyword strategies harder to manage.

Google says early results are promising, with AI Max campaigns delivering about a 7% increase in conversions at similar costs. While keywords are not going away, the company is clearly encouraging advertisers to rely more on automation and focus their time on higher-level strategy rather than manual campaign management.
