Thought Leadership

GO NEW YORK GO

My brother and I were big Knicks fans in the late 90s. I was finishing college, had a job lined up in fashion PR, and life was full of new things to chase. Somewhere along the way, I lost my thread of Knicks fandom as other interests and passions took hold.

Fast forward to 2024. I’m now married to a huge Knicks fan who has shared his passion for all things orange and blue with me and our 10-year-old son — who, by the way, has a mean outside shot. We started adjusting our schedules to make sure we were all home for games, gathered in the family room, eating dinner on the coffee table. Our love of this team snowballed into trips to the Garden (Damian Bazadona, can I have a raise, please?), family Knicks chants, staying up way past bedtime during playoffs, an embarrassment of gear, and one very lucky meet-and-greet with Tom Thibodeau.

And then last night happened! Our emotions ranged from crestfallen in the first half to overwhelming-bonkers-losing-our-minds joy in the final seconds when OG Anunoby tipped Jalen Brunson’s shot into the basket. We witnessed the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history. It’s a moment that is now seared not only in NBA history, but in the history of our little family. We will point to this moment and recount it over and over again for years to come.

As we get ready for Game 5 of the Finals, here’s what I keep thinking about: we live in a world of short-form everything. Fifteen seconds, swipe, gone. But our Knicks experience is the complete opposite. It’s a full season of storylines. It’s endless conversations about players, coaches, and team history, sprinkled with Knicks trivia questions tucked into my son’s lunch bag. It’s an investment in something we love and in each other. It’s fandom, connection, and the human experience at its best.

I’m grateful that my career brought me to Situation, where we spend every day thinking about why live experiences like this one matter, and how to make them unforgettable for the fans who show up for them.

LFG Knicks.
